How Close Board Fencing is Built
Close board fencing is constructed on site rather than using pre-made panels. Arris rails are fixed horizontally between the posts and individual feather-edge boards are nailed vertically to the rails, each one slightly overlapping the last. This creates a solid, uniform fence with excellent privacy and wind resistance. The in-situ construction means the fence can be adapted to slopes and irregular boundaries much more easily than panel fencing.

Panel fences act like a sail in the wind. When wind gets under a panel, it can blow out or blow over. Close board fencing has small gaps between the boards that allow wind to pass through slightly, which significantly reduces the force exerted on the fence. Posts, Capping Rails and Finishing
